Give It a Chance: ‘Breaking In’

Every year, without fail we are subjected to a plethora of shoddy TV series and network hopefuls, and almost every year these shows fail. Low ratings, terrible stories, or zero network backing are the main reasons for a show to fail, and sometimes, it’s just not fair. Ask Doc about Terriers and you’ll understand what I’m talking about.

So I figured to try to fight this yearly slump of terrible shows and apathetic viewers, it makes sense to highlight the different series that I think are worth their time slot, in order to make it easier for you to weed through the crap and find the gold. So that brings us to the first show I encourage you to try out this season.

Breaking In stars Bret Harrison (Reaper), Odette Annable (who used to go by Odette Yustman in Cloverfield and The Unborn), and Christian Slater, who really had nowhere else to go but TV. Breaking In tells the story of Cam (Harrison), a high-profile computer hacker who is selected to work at ‘Contra Security’, a company that specializes in testing out their client’s security systems, hence the clever name of the show. Now why should you watch this show above all other newcomers this season?

Movie Trailers

New Trailer: ‘X-men: First Class’ (Again)

I swear if they would have just included everything from the teaser trailer, the first trailer and the international trailer I would have warmed up to this movie a lot quicker than I did. To say this movie now looks awesome is an understatement. Watch the trailer and let your words melt away into “oooooohs” and “aaaaaahs”:

Even though my first initial reaction was excitement, in retrospect I should be cautiously optimistic. As many of our brilliant readers know, many trailers are way better than their movies actually turn out to. Actually this happens more than half the time.

Something else to consider is how terrible nearly every Fox released comic movie has been over the years. The most recent Fox crapfest in comic movie history being Wolverine: Origins.

 One thing is for sure: even with all of the coolness shown to us in the trailer, we haven’t seen everyone in full action mode. The glimpses we have seen of Havok and Banshee using their powers have been great, but we still haven’t seen Sebastian Shaw dealing out an ass whooping, or Emma Frost do much besides turn into her diamond form and have an awesome rack. All that remains now is to see the finished product, because one more trailer of this and we’ll have seen the entire movie.

WWE: Extreme Rules 2011 – Outcome Predictions

There’s nothing better than trying to predict the outcome of a predetermined sporting event. But that is exactly what I’m going to do before this Sunday’s Pay Per View event.

Randy Orton vs CM Punk – Last Man Standing

This feud has been ongoing for way too long for them to not end it tonight. Last Man Standing usually means someone is getting their ass kicked definitively, so I’m fully expecting CM Punk to get his ass handed to him once and for all, so Orton can solidify his role as main attraction on Smackdown. If you think about it they are on separate shows and the feud is really run it’s course. It’s time to end it.

WINNER: Randy Orton

Jerry Lawler/Jim Ross vs Michael Cole/Jack Swagger
Country whipping match

I’m not exactly sure what a whipping match is except that people will be whipped. In this tag match, unless Cole is getting beat into a coma I could care less about. The Lawler/Cole feud is about as drawn out and old as the Orton/Punk feud, except with less entertainment. Michael Cole was funny to an extent in the beginning and I know we all need someone to hate, but let’s leave that to the wrestlers and not the commentators. This thing has been going for close to a year it seems like, and Cole is just downright annoying to the point where I almost hate watching Raw because he disrupts it so badly. And he says everything three to four times over in the ring which is very annoying when you can hear him clear as day.

Winners: Jerry Lawler and Jim Ross (hopefully)

Alberto Del Rio vs Christian

Ladder Match for the World Heavyweight Championship

With the World Heavyweight belt vacant, Del Rio and Edge’s best buddy Christian will be duking it out in a ladder match to decide who the next champ will be. You might think with Christian being the master of ladder matches, Edge’s friend and all around likable guy, that he would be the one to win it. But I have to disagree because it seems like they’ve been all about Alberto Del Rio for quite some time, building him up over the course of last year as a major contender and hated heel. It all culminated in Del Rio’s Royal Rumble win and eventual championship match against Edge. Then he lost to Edge at Wrestlemania… didn’t see that one coming.

It’s pretty evident they found out about Edge’s health woes and need to retire just before Wrestlemania 27. They weren’t going to have him lose in his last match ever, so they just delayed Del Rio’s victory until now with the title vacant. Edge gets to retire a champion and Del Rio gets to win the title finally and score tons of guest appearences on Univision. Everybody wins!

Winner: Alberto Del Rio

Rey Mysterio vs Cody Rhodes – Falls Count Anywhere

This match is yet another long, drawn out feud that has run it’s course. Like a lot of the other ones it was fun at first but has definitely overstayed it’s welcome. I like what they did to Cody Rhodes, switching from pretty boy to masked freak. (even though it’s pretty apparent that not much was wrong with his face.) I see no reason for Cody to win this one. He’s a heel that is narrowly on the jobber level.

WINNER: Rey Mysterio

The Miz vs John Cena vs John Morrison

Steel Cage Triple Threat Match

The words Triple, Threat, Steel, Cage and Match should fill any wrestling spectator with glee. But for some reason I’m not all that excited for this match. It could be that two of the participants were involved in this past Wrestlemania’s worst main event in the history of the WWE. John Cena and the Miz = boring. So you’d then think I’d be rooting for John Morrison, but I’m not. Seriously? A guy wearing sunglasses with the worst tan ever, calling himself the Prince of Parkour? There’s no one to root for period in this one. There should be a triple disqualification that somehow makes the title vacant. But that won’t happen, so I have a feeling that the Miz will still hang onto the belt for this one. Of course it will be a cheap bullshit win, because they haven’t wrote the monkey faced turd of a champion winning the old fashioned way. I’m thinking R Truth will interfere to blow it for Morrison and win it for Miz.

WINNER: The Miz

Well those are my two cents. I’m hoping this pay per view will at least be mildly entertaining but with all the rehashed replay matches they have scheduled make me skeptical. I’m pretty sure almost everyone of these matches except the Del Rio one occured in one form or another at Wrestlemania 27.

GB’s Must See TV: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes The Avengers

We spend a lot of time here at the Griz reviewing movies, and giving our thoughts so that you (the reader) will have an informed opinion before you chose to watch said movie. Don’t believe me? Check out the reviews section and tell me we don’t bring you a ton of them. Usually they feature an outline of whatever is being reviewed, and the potential for enjoyment you could have with it. It’s a nice safe place where you can share ideas and have informed conversations about your viewing habits.

I say screw that. This is going to be us (the staff of GB) telling you (the reader) exactly what to watch and when to do it. Not whether you should, or if you’ll like it. I’m flat out telling you, watch this immediately. This is Grizzly Bomb’s Must See TV.

And to start it off, we are going to feature a cartoon, because who doesn’t love cartoons?

The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes premiered on Disney XD last year, and while I covered some news on it before it was released, I wasn’t too sure if it was something I was going to enjoy. I was afraid it would be another show primed for yung’ins, much like The Super Hero Squad Show, which I detest. But I’m getting ahead of myself.

2011 NHL Playoffs – Round 2: Eastern Conference

Well since we all know the Eastern Conference is inferior to the Western Conference, lets not even bother talking about the race for second place. Instead, lets talk about something more important…

 Let’s look at the East.

Washington Capitals vs Tampa Bay Lightning

This series is a no-brainer. The Capitals showed they are firing on all cylinders when they dismantled the Rangers in the first round. The Caps were able to get significant production from from supporting cast members like Arnott and Knuble in addition to the multiple point put up by Ovechkin and Semin. To make matters worse for the Lightning Michal Neuvirth is coming into this round boasting a 1.38 GAA and 0.936 save percentage. One thing that does need to be said about the Lightning is what an amazing job Steve Yzerman has done. He has turned Tampa Bay around and crafted them into an EASTERN CONFERENCE playoff contender.

Prediction: Capitals in 5

Philadelphia Flyers vs Boston Bruins

This will be the series to watch in the East for competitive, grind it out, physical hockey. Both teams are coming off of hard fought 1st rounds that went to game sevens, so hopefully that intensity carries over. With the goalie carousel going on in Philly and a banged up Pronger, I think Boston has the advantage going into this series. That being said, lets not forget Boston found a away to blow a 3 game lead and let the Canadians take them to the brink.

Prediction: Boston in 6

2011 NFL Draft: 1st Round Winners and Losers…

The focus so far has been the 4 QBs taken in the Top 12 picks, but what jumps out at me is the amount of Linemen selected in the first round of the Draft Friday. 20 of the 32 players taken are will be either attacking or protecting the QB. A lot of teams reached for needs, which allowed a lot of other teams to get great value in their position.

Winners

The Cleveland Browns – The Browns have potential to be the biggest winner in the draft here, as they traded their #6 overall pick to Atlanta for the #27 along with this years 2nd and 4th rounds picks, and next year’s 1st and 4th round picks. Now I wasn’t crazy about them jumping back up later in the first from 27 to 21. They selected Phil Taylor, a DT from Baylor which isn’t a bad pick, but I’m not convinced they couldn’t have stayed put and still gotten him with the 27. We’ll have to see what else Holmgren does in the next few rounds, but so far you gotta be happy in Cleveland.

The Jacksonville Jaguars – The Jags had to trade up to get him, but with the 10th pick they got a Top 5 Projected QB in Blaine Gabbert. I’ve never been a Garrard fan, so to me this is a great value for them, even if they did lose a pick to jump up from 16 to 10, they got their guy. And while Gabbert can’t be happy falling to 10, this seems like a good fit to me.

The Detroit Lions – My beloved Lions. After years of ineptitude by the Millen Regime they seem to finally know what they are doing. DT Nick Fairley out of Auburn was projected as a Top 3 pick a month ago, but fell out of favor because of work ethic questions, much like Ex-Lion Shaun Rodgers. The difference here is, this Lion’s team has guys like Vanden Bosch and Suh, leaders on the D who will push those around them. The first organized player workouts in the NFL, after the lockout started, were those put together by Vanden Bosch. This is a great value at #13 and I think we have the guys to motivate Fairley into becoming a star. The Lions should now have the best D-Line in football.
