John Wick: A Review of Revenge Incarnate

John Wick‬ is the revenge movie we all hoped it would be. Straight forward without distraction of unneeded twist, nor neutered to avoid the ®. The action choreography flows with the soundtrack. The cars are classic, the women are fast, the fights are brutal, and feel is…familiar- in a comforting way. Twinges of 1970s grit and old school code combine with a rapidly paced 101-minute orchestra of ‘cool.’  1994, 1999, and now 2014. Welcome back Keanu.

Cabin Fever: Patient Zero – A Tale Of Multiple Movies

Let’s get this right out of the way. Cabin Fever: Patient Zero, is the best of all three of the Cabin Fever films so far. You’ll probably react to this news in one of two ways: Indifference, or you’ll defend the Eli Roth original to the death as the One True Cabin Fever film. The problem with this is that the horror genre has moved beyond the referential “Homages and passion are enough” status quo. 2012’s Cabin In The Woods changed all of that. When Cabin Fever came out, it flopped pretty hard but the theater of people I saw it in were changed forever. It’s a raucous film that has energy and lots of flaws, but it’s lots of fun. The sequel was a bizarre result of studio intervention and Alan Smithee-esque levels of final cut butchery, so it’s best left forgotten.

Kristy: Could This Be The Next Cult Horror Hit?

Ever wonder what happens on an empty college campus during the Thanksgiving holiday? Well, you might want to hold onto that thought and just be happy you’re surrounded by family, food and Black Friday sales. It’s certainly better than being on that college campus stalked by unknown assailants who pick random targets to take out, and I don’t mean for a turkey dinner. The name of the movie is Kristy and this could be next on your horror watch list.

Zatanna: The Subject Of New Kickstarter Fan Film

Warner Bros. and DC Comics have given fans a look into the future of their slate of superhero blockbusters. Sadly though, none of the mystical members of the DC Comics universe were mentioned as part of those announcements. But now, movie writer/director Theo Brown is looking to rectify this by producing his own fan film take on everyone’s favorite magician Zatanna Zatara. A regular ally of Batman and member of the Justice League Dark, she is one of DC’s most popular female characters.

The project’s Kickstarter page has a final funding goal of $36,000 that must be reached by November 15, 2014. For those financial supporters who throw a few bucks into this superhero origin story, you can expect to receive some awesome perks. Everything from a shout out on the film’s Twitter page to an exclusive hangout session on the set of the film, perhaps with Shannon Hollander, the actress set to play the famous magician.

Theo Brown made sure to explain his passion as a filmmaker and his unbridled appreciation for Zatanna’s backstory:

“I’m a filmmaker by trade and a comic book fan since birth. My two huge passions in life combined in making Zatanna. I also wrote the script for Zatanna, so I want to be sure that this project is the best that it can possibly be. I’m super excited about this project and the opportunity to give one of my favorite characters her chance to shine! While Zatanna is my first comic book film, I’ve been working on movies for the past seven years. As both a writer and a director, I love getting to dive into a character’s world and craft a story out of it. Professionally, I’ve worked with a range of companies, from filming a documentary in India with a NGO to working with NASA with their recruitment team to being on set for various TV commercials. With my own personal projects, I’ve had some films screen in film festivals across the country. I know the process of film production and can promise the utmost professional ability, transparency, and dependency.”

Zatanna

Zatanna has been featured in several DC TV shows and animated series such as Smallville, Young Justice and Batman: The Animated Series. It’s about time she got to dole out her backwards magic in a solo film endeavor. Let’s hope that Justice League Dark film actually happens…

Female Robin Carrie Kelley Cast for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice?

On top of the huge news that came from Warner Bros. regarding the future lineup of DC Comics films comes this huge rumor – Batman’s most trusty sidekick may make an appearance. And she (yes, we just said SHE) may have already been cast.

So where did this rumor come from? A news report stated that one of the film’s background talents divulged a few details about what additional superheroes may pop up. One of them is Batman’s most revered partner-in-crimefighting, Robin, who is rumored to be the Carrie Kelley version of the character. For those of you out there who’ve read The Dark Knight Returns, this news should come as an exciting surprise. This rumor could have some more legitimacy placed behind it due to the film being heavily inspired by Frank Miller’s epic miniseries.

So who’s the lucky lady rumored to be donning Robin’s outfit? The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’s own Jena Malone! Miss Malone has also done some TV and movie work in Law & Order (as Michelle Landon), Sucker Punch (as Rocket) and Time Out of Mind (as Maggie).

Another cool tidbit that emanated from the Batman v Superman’s ongoing production revolves around Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) and Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) crossing paths.  A scene is being prepped within the Michigan State University campus’ art museum that could set up the problems that exist between two of DC’s most powerful men.

We’re hoping this latest Batman v Superman rumor rings true. We’re looking forward to seeing Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and the rest of the announced DC characters show up. We’d be even more ecstatic to watch the Dark Knight jump across rooftops with a female Robin in tow.

What do you think of Carrie Kelley as Robin in the film, or Jena Malone playing the character? Sound off in the comments below and join the discussion at the Grizzlybomb Facebook page!
