Return of The Jedi: Vader Dialogue Added…. WHY?

I’ve never been too impressed with all of the “adjustments” that Mr. George Lucas is constantly making to his Star Wars films, particularly the original trilogy. Nothing made me cringe more than on the special edition VHS of Empire Strikes Back, when Luke is falling in Cloud City and the Emperor’s scream from Return of the Jedi was added in…. How terrible. And let’s not forget the infamous ‘Greedo shooting first’ fiasco. Enough said there!

Now we have a scene where there was no need to mess with it. A self-sacrifice action to save a son’s life that worked without any dialogue. In the original scene Vader’s silence spoke volumes.

Now….. good God, just watch the clip below:

Granted the Noooooo! sounded a little better than that botch-job in Revenge of the Sith, but it still should not have been in there. I’m sure that I’ll get the same type of responses with people who will say “it’s George Lucas’ movie and he can do what he wants with it!”, which is true, but I’ll retaliate with the same comeback the outraged fans have –“Respect the fans because we’re the ones lining your pockets….bitch!”. And it’s funny that Lucas keeps changing things considering what he said before Congress in 1988

I don’t get Lucas’ angle here. Are the fans too stupid to realize that earlier in the film in his conversation with Luke that he was having doubts about turning his son over to Palpatine? Are they too stupid to realize that Vader wasn’t too keen on his son being ‘Force Lightninged’ to death?

Unfortunately those weren’t the only changes to the Blu Rays…

As suspected a couple years back, Yoda is being replaced by a CG model in Phantom Menace. See George, that’s a good thing when you fix something that is total garbage.

Also being added into the Return of the Jedi, the Ewoks will have blinking eyes, now Lucas just needs to make the Gungans in Phantom Menace have no mouths. Also in A New Hope Greedo is still firing (horribly) first at Han in the cantina, and it was decided that the Krayt Dragon roar that Obi Wan emulates needed to be changed for the third time. So enjoy the Blu Rays being released later this month, I know my excitement for one has been unexpectedly stifled.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 4 Trailer – New Footage!

If the first trailer for season 4 of the Clone Wars didn’t quite do it for you then wait, there’s more! Now there’s another trailer that shows quite a bit more than just the spectacular (And physics defying) battle underwater on the Mon Calamari homeworld of Dac. Sorry fellow geeks if they stray from EU continuity by just calling the planet Mon Calamari. So take a look at the trailer below so we can sift through all of the goodness and I can push all of the things I’M interested in for Season 4 onto all of you! Enjoy!

Once again, the underwater battle looks breathtaking, but all of the other stuff bodes well for a good season. Of course we’ll get another trailer showcasing the second of the season during the show’s break in winter. Now to the most interesting stuff to me:

Grievous v.s. Ventress

Ventress wasn’t on very good terms with the Confederacy last time we saw her. Her attempt to kill Dooku with his new apprentice failed so now she’s all on her own. So is Grievous sent to eliminate her once and for all so Tyranus has no loose ends? And will Ventress accomplish something to get back into her former master’s good graces? I think so.

Savage Oppress

Ok he wasn’t in the trailer but don’t act like this subject isn’t the Bantha in the room. It appeared in the end of his episode arc last season that Savage had a brother and it sure the hell looked like Darth Maul. So it looks like that might be covered in the second half of the season and I can’t wait! Is Maul going to have robot legs? Will he be a holocron gatekeeper? A Dark Side force ghost? The anticipation is killing me. I want to see Savage in action again because he was a sight to behold in Season 3. I’m wondering who will end up killing him…

The Jedi… With two double-bladed lightsabers!

Seriously doesn’t this whole thing seem a little overkill?! Yes, but I love it. This Jedi better be able to do some damage. And he’s the same species as Dex from Attack of the Clones so that’s something new.

The Togruta Slaves

Unless I’m wrong it looked like there was a lot of talk about slaves when they showed numerous Togruta people lining up. (same species as Ahsoka) I’m interested because we all know how Anakin despises slavery and he looks to be getting pretty pissed in this trailer. Also they kind of covered the Togruta getting enslaved in the Slavers of Zyggeria clone wars book, but I guess it wouldn’t be the first time they deviated from continuity. And I may be completely wrong about the Togruta being slaves.

Ackbar’s Back!

And that’s all I have to say!

So here’s to double-double lightsabers, light-whips, Mon Calamari and Grievous fighting gungans! Be sure to tune in on September 16th at 8:00pm for two episodes: ‘Water War’ and ‘Gungan Attack’ and I’ll be sure to review it!

The Phantom Menace in 3D….Oh Boy.

Rarely do movies get re-released in theaters, and even more rarely in 3D. It’s even more rare when a bad movie gets re-released, let alone in 3D. Yes, according to a brief report over at Bleeding Cool, the Phantom Menace 3D transition is all but complete and Jar Jar Binks will soon be annoying you in more than two dimensions come February of 2012. Check out the report below:

I’ve just had a quick chat with Matt Bristowe, Head of Production at stereo house Prime Focus after the “big” 3D debate at Empire Big Screen. He’s confirmed for me that all work is complete on the 3D version of Star Wars Episode One: The Phantom Menace.

As well you know, the film is hitting cinemas next February. To hear Prime Focus talk about the film, they certainly seem to have done a lot of hard work on this one, considering the artistic implications of another dimension carefully.

Had only the first two dimensions been totally up to snuff, eh?

I’m not going to defend The Phantom Menace at all. People who hated it are completely justified in the way they feel about it, especially the die hard fans who waited a very long time for a new Star Wars movie only to get something woefully mediocre. I for one will be seeing the movie in 3D, trying every step of the way trying to not be annoyed to tears by Jar Jar’s antics and Jake Lloyd’s art form of shitty-acting. It’s really all a means to an end to see the epic lightsaber duel between Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan and Darth Maul. That fight scene was worth the price of admission even back in 1999.

Lucas’ plan is to release one Star Wars film in 3D each year so it looks like we’re looking towards 2016 and 2017 for Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi… Well maybe just Empire Strikes Back because the notion of 3D Ewoks both sickens me and creeps me out.

I would also like to ask everyone to comment after reading this article to inspire Dr. Kronner to see this when it returns to theater next year. He’s stubbornly refused to ever watch The Phantom Menace again or even open a Christmas present containing the DVD. So your comments can act as a petition of sorts to break his spirit and force him to see Jar Jar again… in 3D!

TNT’s Falling Skies: Episode 8: What Hides Beneath

Ok so sorry about missing last weeks episode recap and review, but I got super tied up at work…. and I’m lazy. In all honesty Sanctuary Part 2 was, at best, 2 out of 5 grizzlies. In short, the 2nd Mass gets their kids back from Clayton, Clayton dies, Pope has a heart, and the previously harnessed kid, Rik, thinks of himself as an alien now. That’s it… One sentence. BOOM. Efficiency.

Star Wars: Clone Wars Season 4 – Actress Katee Sackhoff as a Mandalorian!

katee sackhoff

Battlestar Galactica alum Katee Sackhoff was reported to be in the fourth season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars on Cartoon Network, but it left a lot of us wondering exactly who she would be portraying. Turns out, it’s to be the show’s first female Mandalorian!

Of course this is nothing new to expanded universe readers, but it’s great that the female Mando’s are getting some due on the show. And she appears to be a member of the ‘Death Watch’ no less!

Interesting… I suppose that means we’ll probably be graced with the Jon Favreau voiced Pre Viszla as well. Check out the trailer below:

So yup, everyone’s favorite little Separatist Lux is back and it would seem he’s got a batch of ‘Death Watch’ Mando’s with him. Wonder how this will complicate his and Ahsoka’s relationship. The Clone Wars Season 4 is still a ways off into the Fall, but hopefully they keep coming out with little tidbits at Comic Con for us to chew over. All I can say is Ackbar is back!

Star Wars: ‘Darth Plagueis’ Novel Cover Revealed

All fans of Sith Lords rejoice! After so many rumors, cancellations, and delays – we are finally going to get the oft talked about Darth Plagueis novel! Here is the description below from Starwars.com:

Revenge of the Sith, while attending a ballet, Supreme Chancellor Palpatine casually mentions to Anakin Skywalker the tale of Darth Plagueis. Plagueis was a Sith Lord so wise and powerful, that he could even manipulate the Force to create life or stop death in others. Ironically, such a powerful being could not prevent his own death, for in the way of the Sith, Plagueis was killed in his sleep by his apprentice.

Palpatine told the captivating tale to start certain wheels spinning in the Chosen One’s head. Ever since then, Star Wars fans have been clamoring to know more about Plagueis. Author James Luceno delves into the secrets of the dark side to find out more about Darth Sidious and Darth Plagueis in a new hardcover novel, Star Wars: Darth Plagueis, due out this winter.
