It’s always a good day when Arrested Development updates are abound on the internet and today’s tidbit is a great one. According to Rolling Stone, via Warming Glow, it looks like Arrested Development will get a movie. THEN a season 5 series order. Yep, that’s right, I just blue myself.
I had the wonderful pleasure of being able to attend the Cosmos panel at Comic-Con with Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson, Ann Druyan and producer Brannon Braga. First off, it probably was one of the coolest panels I have ever attended and it was the second time I have heard Dr. Tyson (or Neil at the panel if you were lucky enough to ask him a question) speak. The first time being the Starship Smackdown panel last year where he expounded on why the original Starship Enterprise deserved to win the smackdown (which, not shockingly, did win). The second time I heard him speak in person was this panel and it proved that seeing him in person is an experience in itself. Very eloquent and never condescending, he spoke with passion yet never overpowering the audience. You can definitely see why he was chosen to be the next host of Cosmos.
Even better was the involvement of Ann Druyan, the widow of Carl Sagan, and what she had to say on the subject of bringing back this show of science and discovery so that a new generation can enjoy Cosmos. I had never seen her speak before but you can definitely tell she is more than capable of carrying the torch that Sagan lit with this program. For those that don’t know, Cosmos was a mini-series from 1980 that had 13 episodes. It was presented by Carl Sagan and talked about a wide range of scientific subjects, whether the origins of life, life out in the universe or even investigating our own mysteries here on Earth. It was well received and people have been clamoring for a return. Luckily, Seth MacFarlane carries an enormous amount of clout these days and is executive producing Cosmos: A Space Time Odyssey because he was such a big fan. So in 2014, we will be treated to the next iteration of the series on both FOX and the National Geographic Channel. It’s hard for me to really explain more about the series so below is the trailer to the new mini-series.
Yeah, I know right? I managed to watch Cosmos when I was a lot younger and it really did turn me on to science as a young kid and the whole idea of exploration and curiosity. By bringing this to a whole new generation, the goal is to at least expand the minds of new generations and provide a starting point for those to inquire more about science. I hope this project becomes a great success and a starting point for those younger kids to begin looking into the world. Again, Cosmos: A Space Time Odyssey will air on FOX and National Geographic sometime in Spring 2014. Below is a small bit from the Cosmos panel, showing why Neil deGrasse Tyson has the ability to speak to the new generation and get some blood flowing to the brain.
In news that will blow the minds of animation fans everywhere, Fox has decided to merge two of its most popular animation shows for one incredible episode. Yes, the Griffin family are going to come head to head with the Simpsons (thanks to Collider for the info). This merging of shows might be due to another one of their popular animation shows American Dad moving on to TBS (scheduled for 2014), and they may be feeling the loss of this show very soon. What better way could there be to ease the pain of this loss and get the ratings up, then having this incredible meeting of the world’s most famous cartoon families. Scheduled for next fall and called The Simpsons Guy, below is a brief rundown of the plot:
[box_dark]Peter (Seth MacFarlane) and the Griffins get out of dodge and end up in Springfield, where they are greeted by a friendly stranger named Homer Simpson (guest voice Dan Castellaneta), who welcomes his new “albino” friends with open arms. The families get along famously: Stewie (MacFarlane) becomes obsessed with Bart (guest voice Nancy Cartwright) and his old-fashioned pranks; Lisa (guest voice Yeardley Smith) takes Meg (Mila Kunis) under her wing and is determined to find something – anything – at which she excels; Marge (guest voice Julie Kavner) and Lois (Alex Borstein) ditch housework for a little bonding; and Peter and Homer fight over the best beer in town – Pawtucket vs Duff.[/box_dark]
I have to be honest, I never saw this coming myself even with both shows airing on the same network. It’s great that the cast from The Simpsons were up for this, with all the original voice actors playing their parts. As it is set in Springfield, we must see some more of the residents popping up throughout this episode. The interesting thing for me is what tone will the episode have? Both shows feature quirky families and have a heart and moral message in most of their episodes, but they go about them a very different way. Will the shocking humor of Family Guy manage to gel with the more restrained comedy of The Simpsons? What animation style will they be using as both have distinctive art for their shows? This sounds like incredible news and hopefully this will not be the last encounter between the two families.
What do you think of the meeting between these two TV families? Sound off in the comments section below!
While it’s still early in this years SDCC, Fox’s X-Men: Days of Future Past has already started to make a pretty big splash. Early today we got our first look at a Sentinel head (presumably a scaled down version of it) which you can check out here, and now we get to see a viral campaign based around Trask Industries, the creators of the Sentinels led by Peter Dinklage’s character Bolivar Trask. You can check out the new but relatively slim Trask Industries website, as well as some of the promotional materials from SDCC after the jump:
While we wait for the start of Comic-Con this year, there is no shortage of rumors and possible leaked news circulating around the web. Most of this stuff will be expanded upon further at some of the panels at SDCC, but we can take a look at some of the released info now to prepare for the actual news we are sure to see this weekend. So lets get started, and take a look at some recently leaked/revealed plot details from X-Men: Days of Future Past.
In some surprising casting news, Bryan Singer has announced that Evan Peters has been cast as Quicksilver in X-Men: Days of Future Past. If the name Quicksilver seems familiar from recent news, it’s because his inclusion in The Avengers 2 was recently confirmed by Joss Whedon. Singer revealed his news on Twitter, as he has grown quite accustomed to lately, revealing looks at Halle Berry As Storm, makeup for both Nicholous Hoult as Beast and Jennifer Lawrence As Mystique, Peter Dinklage’s first day on set, and pretty much every other piece of news we’ve seen over the last few months. Below is the edited tweet:
