‘The Wolfman’ Remake – Too Soon?

The Wolfman, starring Benicio del Toro and Sir Anthony Hopkins came out last year to poor reviews and a low box office. This was shattering to the studio that had planned for a money making trilogy to cash in on the recent drive for all things werewolves and vampires.

“I said he flip ya. Flip ya for real.” – The Usual Suspects? Nobody gets me…

So you’d think that with The Wolfman ‘failing’ at the theaters that would be it for the movie. But no, that just is never the case these days. So instead of just going ahead with their planned sequel, they have reportedly opted instead to simply remake the movie… again. After only one year.

Universal is saying that it’s a remake of the classic version and not the one from a year ago. But the one from a year ago was a remake of the classic version as well, so really who knows anymore. Also they may call it Werewolf, further throwing originality out the window.

DC Nu: 52 Brand New #1’s – ‘Teen Heroes’

In this latest installment of our look at DC’s Brand New #1’s I think I’m going to tackle DC’s stable of Teen heroes. Up until a few years ago this was the main difference between Marvel and DC, as Marvel was not known for its teen heroes after the death of Bucky in the 40’s. Things of course change as the years go on, but DC has always been the front-runner when it comes to the teen heroes. All series descriptions are from CBR.

Teen Titans #1

Tim Drake is forced to step out from behind his keyboard when an international organization seeks to capture or kill super-powered teenagers. As Red Robin, he must team up with the mysterious and belligerent powerhouse thief known as Wonder Girl and a hyperactive speedster calling himself Kid Flash in TEEN TITANS #1, by Scott Lobdell and artists Brett Booth and Norm Rapmund.

So we find out where Tim Drake stands in the DC Nu, as well as a decidedly new look for one of my favorite characters. They of course all get a pretty drastic makeover, as well as some new characters I can’t place. I’m not sure how I feel about Tim’s wings, Superboy’s barcode tattoo, or Wonder Girl being referred to as a thief, but we’ll have to see how it plays out.

Avengers Assemble: The Series – Episode I ‘Healthcare’

I think we’ve really own scratched the surface of Original Web Series that are floating around on the web. We’ve talked about a couple, such as the new Mortal Kombat: Legacy series, and the funny yet frightening Psycho Ex-Girlfriend. So now I think it’s time to bring you another series that I have become a huge fan of. It’s called Avengers Assemble. It takes a look into the more humorous, and often more human side of the Avengers.

The series starts off with an average Avengers meeting. But as the season progresses you get to see a cast full of hilarious versions of our favorite characters in a sometimes raunchy, often times hilarious, and most times refreshing parody of the Avengers; tasked by Human Resources and dealing with budget cut. I could keep rambling but I think I’ll just show you the first episode:

“Jan, what happened to your eye?”

“I fell into a door…”    Continue reading Avengers Assemble: The Series – Episode I ‘Healthcare’

Batman Live: World Arena Tour Revealed…

Now it seems like ages ago when I first reported on Batman Live, the arena event that brings Batman and friends to your neighborhood. Most people were definitely put off by this announcement, especially during all the problems the musical Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark was experiencing.

Of course the major difference is that Batman Live: World Arena Tour is NOT a musical. It’s more of a stage show to be enjoyed by the whole family. Still, it’s hard to see Batman on stage in a family friendly experience. Regardless, let’s take a look at the characters being featured, and the costumes.

It’s like the love child of ‘Batman Forever’ and ‘Batman and Robin’

Okay, so they could all be worse. Keep in mind that they are amped up in order to stand out in the large dark arenas, and to appeal to the kiddies. I’m not going to spend the time here critiquing every costume, because they already did that over at ComicsAlliance. Let’s see if a video is any better. Check out the trailer:

Wow…um, okay. Check out this sneak preview of the show:

‘Hawkman’ Treatment: Indiana Jones meets DaVinci Code?

Now obviously nothing is confirmed, or even moving forward, but there has been a report of a Hawkman film treatment out there. And there’s no doubt that DC will be looking at ways to market any and all heroes. Lately it seems comic book movies are getting better and better, and DC has yet to fully tap that market. Sometimes not for their lack of trying.

DCNu: 52 Brand New #1’s – Batman

Renumbering. It’s a tried and true method of bringing up sales, as well as introducing new readers into the story. Renumbering a popular title is most often done when a high-numbered series is receiving a new creative team, new storyline etc. Spider-Man has done it a few times, The Ultimate Marvel line has done it a few times, but DC has remained relatively unscathed by this trend.

Until now…
