At no other time or place can you see thousands of geeky nerdy nerds gathered in a place tailored for them. Comic-Con started out as a place for the assembled fans of to gather, discuss, sell, buy, promote and live all things comic-related, and has grown exponentially. This is the Con that makes all other cons it’s bitch. The next big thing from comics, movies, video games, toys, cosplay etc. is usually first brought to us at this yearly event.
So obviously we are going to try to cover all the big news, but I’ll warn you ahead of time – These little updates will be anything but little. Since most of us are unable to be a part of the GREATEST THING EVER, then we have to get by reading about it. So I’m just trying to make it easy for everybody by bringing the news from the Con to those of us who unfortunately cannot partake in the awesomeness. That being said…
Oh man, where to start? It’s only been going for like a day and there’s already so much to choose from. I’ll travel through it quick so try to stay with me…
Preview Night Gallery – (Newsarama)
First we’ll start with a whole bunch of images from some of the displays and panels.
That Avengers Stage is awesome, but I don’t know what beats the LEGO Batman with a cape that flows in the wind. Awesome. More to pictures to come later on so let’s talk a little news.
Jackman Confirms Silver Samurai in The Wolverine – (Spinoff Online)
Promoting Red Steel, his upcoming film about robot fighting, Hugh Jackman had a little to say about The Wolverine as well:
“Chris McQuarrie has written a fantastic script and it should turn out really good,” GeekTyrant quotes the actor as saying. “I’ll fight the Silver Samurai in it so that should be exciting. Most of the filming will take place in Japan.”
The Avengers Teaser Poster – (Splashpage)
Not giving us a whole lot, it’s still a pretty great poster that I want immediately.
Marvel’s Next Big Thing Panel – (ComicBookResources)
Since we’re talking Marvel you can check out the link where the Marvel panel discusses pretty much everything that’s coming out in the next year, ranging from Avengers Academy, Hulk of Arabia, Avengers Origins, Villains for Hire… So much info here about the face of Marvel Comics. Here’s a couple of the series covers that were provided:
There’s a ton more comic art at the link.
Activision Parties It Up – (CBR)
This is the Comic-Con opening party that I want to be at. Not only was it Goldeneye themed, in honor of Activision’s new game Goldeneye: Reloaded, but you could play Spider-Man: Edge of Time and X-Men: Destiny for the first time. Oh, and Stan Lee was there. Yea. Here’s a few pics from the game, followed by a new CCI trailer for Spider-Man: Edge of Time:

Pretty sweet. I’m getting very excited for this game. And now I think we’ll head to more pictures, if anything to give you a feel of some of the craziness going on there right now. Not to mention all the cool things there are to see.
More Preview Night Pictures – (MTV Geek)

All right, I think it’s time for more news. Let’s head over to the DC side of things, who are really focusing on their relaunch (The DCNu, you may have heard of it?) and have a series of panels going over everything.
Flashpoint Panel Re-Cap – (MTV Geek)
They cover a lot regarding DC’s universe changing event Flashpoint. This paves the way for the DCNu, and brought up a ton of questions and cosplayers. They speak about Booster Gold, Kid Flash Lost, Deadman & The Flying Graysons just to name a few. I’ll post the very vague speed round, but you can check out the rest at the link.
Q: Is Flashpoint Elseworlds-ie?
A: See Flashpoint #5.
Q: I think Flashpoint would be a good animated movie!
A: Agreed!
Q: Will we see minority characters in The New 52?
A: Blue Beetle, Cyborg, and More
Q: The New Gods… Did you consider using them in Flashpoint?
A: The New Gods were pivotal in Final Crisis, so they wanted to rest for a while.
Q: Any smaller towns in the reboot?

Q: Will we see more Milestone characters in The New 52?
A: Keep reading.
The next guy was in a Red Lantern costume, so Wayne sent him to the back of the line to get him angry.
Q: Aquaman: Splashpoint?
A: That guy gets a black chip. “Please go to one of our MAD Magazine panels,” joked Wayne.
Q: Are we going to see Jay Garrick at all?
A: Kid Flash Lost #3.
Batman Panel – (CBR)
I would expect this to be a crowded room as anything Batman related has fans. THe panelists cover pretty much every bat book coming out in the DCNu. The list and info about all the titles are here, but I’ll share some of the questions with you again and you can check out the rest at the link.
Q&A opened up from the floor of the panel as the first fan saying that he’d been interested in Batman since “The Dark Knight Returns” but wondered with the changes to the heroes coming with the New 52 titles whether the villains would also be changed. Marts said that the changes coming to any character would be focused on boiling them down to their core while Simone added that a big focus for a lot of the writers was adding new villains into the mix.

That theme continued as a fan asked how they decided what to keep and what to set aside when doing the relaunch. Winick joked that it was “totally random” and that they just threw things up in the air and grabbed pieces to keep.
Asked how decisions were made in the New 52 as far as which characters would be de-aged or have their timelines changed, Marts joked “We’ve got a mini series coming out called ‘The Physics of the DC Universe'” before saying that for now, their focus is on telling cool stories in the present.
Winick explained that Batwing earned his own title because of all the “Batman Incorporated” characters because “We liked him the best…we think he’s a great character, and I think a lot of the other ‘Batman Incorporated’ characters will be seen.”
Asked what the attraction is to come back to creating stories with Batman every month, Morrison said, “I like him because he’s so endlessly adaptable. You can put him in any story, and he just works” from the “Brave & The Bold” cartoon to “Batman Incorporated.”
When a young boy asked how many Robins there have been, the response of “four” from the panel prompted a young woman dressed in Batgirl costume to ask whether with the return of Barbara Gordon as Batgirl there would be a “Batgirl Incorporated” book with Cassandra Cain and Stephanie Brown and other female characters. Simone said they were discussing things on that front this weekend, and that fans should not worry about Stephanie Brown being lost to the DCU. Simone said that supporting character Detective Gage could “maybe” appear in the new “Batgirl” series.
Since we’re already talking Batman, why not look at some wicked Batman toys?
Batman Toy Trifecta – (ToplessRobot)

Hell, we might as well look at some more toys while we’re here.
Evil Dead 2, Futurama, Voltron Toy Trifecta – (ToplessRobot)

I want me some Evil Dead 2 toys. Now.
More Cool Photos – (/Film)
And I think that’s all my brain can handle right now! It’s not even the weekend yet people! So expect more news to come daily during the Con. See you tomorrow!
