How Do you Solve A Problem Like Miranda Lawson? A Discussion Of Romance And Character Creation In Video Games

The character creation tools afforded in many games are a funny thing. They can be unbelievably complex, and players can and often do devote full hours of time fine-tuning the perfect intrepid hero (or horrific monster) out of the numerous sliders, style choices and tweaks that alter the facial and body features of their player-character. It’s one of the defining tropes of the RPG genre.

Yet for all that creativity and time sunk into making your own character, once the game actually starts that huge amount of attention is often inconsequential. In some games, like Bloodborne, you rarely even see your character’s face after all of that effort. In the best cases character creators build a connection between the player and their avatar, but it never goes further than that. Other characters in the games you play never have anything to say about your character’s appearance, whether they have the chiseled features of a Greek statue or the twisted figure of a del Toro monster. It’s all the same to the inhabitants of Skyrim’s Tamriel or Fallout’s American Wasteland. It’s a small, forgivable but ever-present gap in video game logic.

Grant Gustin Says Stop Pitting the Flash Against the Flash

With the upcoming DC movies slated this year, we have been promised standalone feature films from each of the Justice League characters. There have also been some speculations and rumors that we will get a brief viewing of more than the title characters in the Batman VS Superman: Dawn of Justice movie. The Flash has been rumored to be one of those characters.

The cinematic Flash as Barry Allen will be portrayed by Ezra Miller, as opposed to the CW’s extremely popular Flash who is portrayed by Grant Gustin. Some backlash has ensued with the casting of the cinematic Barry Allen, as we have all grown to love and adore Gustin’s take on the character. However, Gustin has taken to twitter to clear the air and try to make the situation as civil as possible by showing his support for Ezra Miller.

Game of Thrones Season 6 – New Teasers Released

HBO will soon (though not soon enough) be delivering unto us the sixth season of their smash hit Game of Thrones. And seeing as our love for the show is one of the bedrocks of this site, we were ecstatic to find our longing for Westeros has been temporarily appeased with some new teasers for the show’s upcoming return.

These new teasers, in a surprise to no one, are not overly upbeat, but rather morose in tone. It may always be sunny in Philadelphia, but that seems rarely the case in places like King’s Landing and Winterfell. Let’s have a look.

Doctor Strange: Benedict Wong Cast As Wong!

In a tale of two Benedicts, we’ve finally seen the addition of a key role in the story of Marvel’s Dr. Stephen Strange. Joining the cast of Scott Derrickson’s Doctor Strange  is Benedict Wong, playing the Doctor’s most trusted ally and companion, Wong.

Benedict Wong was most recently seen in Ridley Scott’s The Martian and Prometheus, as well as Netflix’s Marco Polo. He’ll be joining his other namesake Benedict Cumberbatch in the lead role, alongside Rachel McAdams, Scott Adkins, Michael Stuhlbarg, Amy Landecker, and Mads Mikkelsen in an unrevealed villainous role (which is more than likely the demonic Dormammu).
