Marvel Comics: Ultimate Universe Reborn…Again!

Fans of Marvel’s Ultimate line will in no way be surprised to hear that once again, a new creative team will be taking the reins of the line and completely changing the status quo. It happened before when Jeph Loeb took over and brought about the insane Ultimatum series, which had wide sweeping effects across the whole universe. Basically, every character you really liked ended up dying horribly tragic deaths.

So we were then given Ultimate Comics, a fresh take on what was left of the Ultimates Universe, but it was bogged down with poor shipping schedules and unconnected storylines. So now it has been announced that the new creators Jonathan Hickman and Nick Spencer are coming in to turn the Ultimate U. into a more cohesive involved universe, promising at least monthly shipping and another batch of wide sweeping chances to kick off after the “Death of Spider-Man” storyline currently running in Brian Michael Bendis’ Ultimate Spider-Man.

Over the last week they have revealed 4 books that will be released under the new Ultimate Comics Reborn initiative, so keep reading to see if your favorites make the cut.

Spiderman- Spider Island!

As the Spiderman story arc Spider Island gets closer and closer, I get more wary of the concept of it. It sounds interesting to be sure, but where is the whole thing going I wonder? The story is set in Manhattan and someone has given the everyday population of New York the same powers as Peter Parker. That means everyone from kids, mimes, criminals and police officers will be able to crawl walls and do all the wonderful things that Spiderman can do! NOT. GOOD.

Marvel Comic Review: X-men – Schism Prelude #1

Even though I am eagerly awaiting the Schism storyline in the X-men comic books, the first issue of the prelude to it was really nothing special.

The issue starts with some unknown threat about to hit Utopia and Cyclops and his top advisors including Wolverine and Magneto are debating on how to handle it: run or fight. Most have made their position clear and await Cyclops’ decision as he contemplates what to do.

Kudos to Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev, they’ve done it again. This time it is with a Marvel character that I’ve never known much about except the fact that he looked cool as hell when I was in middle school. I speak of course about Moon Knight. Marvel Comic Review: Fear Itself – Book 2

Fear Itself rages on as Thor is imprisoned by his father Odin, the ‘Hammers of the Worthy’ fall, and the Serpent unleashes his wave of terror across the world! If I could choose one word to describe this issue it would simply be: Chaos. Things are moving along at break neck speed and the heroes of the Marvel Universe are rushing to contain these newest attacks. Not much happened in the story department, aside from a few of the Worthy being revealed, but from the looks at the end of the issue we’ll have to pick up a few tie ins to see the others getting their hammers. If you haven’t read my review of the first issue I suggest you do that, but otherwise read onward into *spoiler* territory!

The Red Lantern Corps Is Coming…

I’m a huge fan of the Green Lantern comic series and everything involved in it. They really sucked me in with the War of Light and Blackest Night. Call me a relatively new Lantern fan, but I can’t imagine what it would be like without the other Lantern Corps of the emotional spectrum. The Sinestro Corps is undoubtedly hardcore, being the anti-thesis of the Green Lanterns. The Orange Lantern Corps under Larfleeze is a little weird, all of them being constructs that Larfleeze has consumed and used as his soldiers. But one of my favorites are the Red Lantern Corps under the leadership of Atrocitus.
