Storytellers: 10 Musicians Who Crossed Over To Comics

Creating and sharing stories is a fundamental part of human society, dating back to neanderthals drawing on cave walls to share how awesome it was when they totally killed that sabretooth tiger who was all up in their business.

Over the years, this evolved (along with language) into songwriting, which for the most part is just another way of telling stories that people can relate to. Musicians and comics have a long history together, dating back to Marvel’s KISS and Alice Cooper comics, and evolving to today’s comic industry that sees a large number of musicians tackling a new medium in which to tell their stories. Most recently we’ve seen DMC enter the comics world by storm with his new series DMC, with a new writing gig at Marvel coming soon.

Below is a list of 10 Musicians and the stories that made their way to the wonderful world of comics.

Iron Fist: Marvel’s Final Netflix Defender

There has been a lot of news regarding Marvel and Netflix’s particular corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe over the last couple of years. The initial announcement dropped with the big news that the long in development Daredevil adaptation, whose rights had recently reverted back to Marvel, would be airing exclusively as a Netflix Original Series. Of course that wasn’t the only announcement made at the time, as we learned that Daredevil would be joined by a few other street level heroes. These heroes would each be getting their own series before starring together in a mini-series event known as The Defenders. We have already seen the first season of Daredevil, and are all just about to sit and binge Jessica Jones, which hits Netflix in its entirety tonight!

Adapted: 5 Classic X-Men Storylines That Would Make Great Films

With X-Men: Apocalypse hitting theaters soon, we take a look at 5 other classic storylines that would add to the X-Men film franchise.

Superhero movies have always drawn from the source material when constructing the big budget films. Aspects and characters may change in the translation, but the important pieces of the original storyline are generally always carried onto the big screen. Some of the more obvious examples are 2004’s The Punisher, which pulled heavily from Welcome Back, Frank by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon.  X2: X-Men United took characters and plot from God Loves, Man Kills by Chris Claremont and Brent Anderson, and Watchmen was nearly a direct panel-by-panel adaptation of the comic, almost to a fault.

Death Note: What We Know About the US Adaptation

That’s right, after a few years in developmental hell Warner Bros’ adaptation of the Japanese manga/anime Death Note is finally seeing some movement in Hollywood.

The original manga is an amazing read with engaging characters and a fantasy/horror/crime theme that is definitely going to be difficult to replicate on the big screen. The anime is also definitely worth checking out, though there are a few differences between the source material and animated adaptation. This also isn’t the first live-action adaptation to hit the big screens, as a Japanese-produced film opened overseas a few years ago which resulted in sequels and even spin-offs.

Batman in the DC Extended Universe: Rumors, Robins and the Red Hood

Eagle-eyed viewers in the theater way back in early 2013 might have been quick to notice a specific little easter egg in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, but nobody really expected that to develop further than an interesting cameo. Which easter egg? I can only be talking about the Wayne Enterprises satellite that is destroyed during Superman and Zod’s climactic Metropolis-smashing battle, which is referencing another member of DC’s Trinity of heroes.

Boy Wonder: The 10 Greatest Traits of Dick Grayson

As a die-hard fan of comics, I am constantly asked who my favorite character is, which I usually have to think about for a while. Any given day my answer may change, depending on my mood or what I’ve been reading, but most days the answer ends up the same; my favorite hero is Dick Grayson AKA Nightwing AKA Agent 37.

I may have started my obsession for comics with Spider-Man, and then tentatively graduated over to Superman, but once I discovered Batman, and by extension Dick Grayson, I was hooked. I became a staunch supporter of all things Robin, and as Grayson’s role changed over the years from sidekick to solo hero, I continued to follow and enjoy the ongoing adventure.
