The Walking Dead: Season 2, Episode 9 – “Triggerfinger”

This episode began right where episode 8 left off. Rick, Glenn and Hershel are in the abandoned saloon. The three of them are waiting by the door to the bar because the friends of the men that Rick shot are looking for them. Rick yells to the men that their friends drew on them and they begin shooting into the bar…

Lori flipped her car into a ditch last episode, and is still there. A walker tries getting through the glass and as glass scrapes his skin off of his face, she grabs a sharp object from her car and stabs him in the eye. As she exits her crumpled up vehicle, she forgets that zombies are sneaky and doesn’t check her surroundings. Another walker attempts to attack her, and she hits him in the head with a rim. Fantastic.

As the rest of the group sits down to dinner, Shane realizes that it has been a long time since anyone has seen Lori. Shane takes the car and heads out to find her. He finds her walking down the road and tells her that Rick and the boys are already back and safe. She trusts him… because he has never lied to her before, right?

As the boys try to get to the car from the bar, the dead men’s friends are shooting at them. Hershel shoots one of their friends, and the rest of the guys decide to get out of there. One of the group jumps off of the roof and (surprise!) hurts himself. His leg was pierced all of the way through by the top of a gate. Rick and Hershel attempt to cut his leg off while Glenn watches out, but the place is crawling with walkers, so Rick rips his leg off of the gate and they head out. [It was AWESOME.]

F*ck! My Leg!

The Walking Dead Review: 2.08 – “Nebraska”

After the three-month hiatus, Nebraska was a much-anticipated episode, and it began where the last episode left off – Rick had just shot zombie Sophia. As we know, Shane let all of the walkers out from the barn. He and Andrea began shooting them one by one. This further pissed Dale off, although Dale hated Shane already, this simply adds fuel to the discontent between them. What I liked about this though, is that everyone else – including Carl – agreed with what Shane did. It really was the right thing to do, even if it wasn’t the best way to do it.

Aside from Sophia, Hershel’s wife was also in the barn. When the Greene family saw her zombie body lying in the heap amongst the others, it caused a lot of heartbreak. Beth (one of Hershel’s daughters) was crying when her not quite dead Zombie-Mommy began reaching for her. Beth escaped only to watch her mother’s skull be penetrated by a farming tool. This sent Beth sent into a state of shock – and where was Hershel?

Nebraska

After making it very clear that everyone but his own family was to immediately leave the farm, Hershel discovered an old flask in his dresser drawer. From there he then went to town to his favorite bar from the old days, and promptly Rick and Glenn go out after him. During this bar adventure, two more characters were introduced: Dave and Tony – a couple of guys who are clearly bad news. Their inquisitive about where Rick and the others are staying, and this is the first time that we really see that the dangers to the group are far more vast than just dodging walkers. With Rick’s refusal to pony up any info, the strangers get increasingly hostile, until one of them draws his gun on Rick. Rick very quickly shoots both of the men.

R.I.P. Tony – ‘The Scrawny Douchebag’

Best scene ever!

Back at the farm, Dale tells Lori that he is pretty sure Shane sacrificed Otis to escape the walkers when they went to the school a few episodes back. Dale explains that although he has no proof, Shane all but admitted it to him. This is a telling factor, as Shane at one point asks Dale ‘What it is you actually do around here?’, it would appear Dale’s most recent job is to see through the bullshit that everyone else appears blind to.

When Beth’s condition seems to get worse, Lori tries to send Daryl to get the guys. Daryl is still very upset about the Sophia situation, and refuses to go. Lori then grabs a gun that I am not entirely convinced she knows how to use at all, and gets in a car to go get the guys from town. She is pregnant and has a son at the farm, but… who cares? The 90 pound woman is going to bring back the three grown men. Only she gets spooked by a zombie …and flips her car. Women drivers… pshh.Nebraska

I thought that this was a pretty great episode. There were parts of this episode that I thought were slow, but as I was reminded, they are trying to show how desensitized everyone is becoming to the world around them.

I would give Nebraska a 4/5. The scene in the saloon really made this episode.

The Walking Dead
Oh, I forgot to mention that Carol cried a lot. Huge shocker.

[Editor’s Note: The scene where Tony and Dave arrive at the bar, which lasted roughly 8 minutes, was for me, the most intensely enjoyable scene in the history of the show. That is largely thanks to a mostly still unknown, and surely under-appreciated actor named Michael Raymond James, who many people will recognize as ‘Rene Lenier’ from the first season of True Blood, but who will forever be known to me as ‘Britt Pollack’ from Terriers. There was something about him and his interactions with Rick, as if he is the ‘Rick’ of the other group, and he wasn’t always a bad guy, he was just handling things much differently. He seemed to channel almost a ‘John McClane’ type of edgy-swagger about him and the way he talked. I was sad to see him killed off so quick, but I suppose it just makes Rick that much cooler in the way he handled it. Kudos to the casting department on that one.]

Woody Harrelson Stars in Real-Life Cop Drama: ‘Rampart’

Rampart is a movie about a real-life police scandal in 1999 in inner-city Los Angeles. Woody Harrelson plays Dave Brown, a member of the rampart division of the Los Angeles Police Department. The drama with Brown began to become public when he was caught on tape severely beating a citizen who had hit him with his car. The video hit the news, and the scandal began. Brown was also accused of many other controversies including murder. The movie also deals with Brown’s home life. He has two ex-wives, who are sisters. He has one child by each of them.

Director Oren Moverman and Harrelson went to the rampart department of the LAPD to shadow them. The two went on ride-alongs and got an inside look of the area that was being policed during the scandal, as well as the tension within the department.

Rampart will release in theaters tomorrow, although it is not being released locally, so I cannot see it yet.

‘Lovelace’ – Movie Update Center

The movie Lovelace is a biopic about 70s porn actress Linda Boreman, or Linda Lovelace. It will tell the story of how Lovelace was abused by the porn industry, and how her husband pushed her into doing pornography. There is no release date yet, so here’s all of the most up-to-date information we have…

First and foremost, Amanda Seyfried will be playing the porn star, meaning… naked Seyfried! E! released news in January that the In Time actress will be doing nude scenes.

Another recent fact, Demi Moore was set to play feminist Gloria Steinem, but had to drop out due to “exhaustion”. She was recently rushed to the emergency room. I am sure you have all heard the 911 call that her friend made:

Moore will be replaced by Sarah Jessica Parker, according to IMDB.

The cast is full of pretty impressive names:

James Franco – as – Hugh Hefner

Wes Bentley  (also will star in Gone with Seyfried)- as – Larry Marchiano

Sharon Stone – as – Dorothy Boreman

Peter Sarsgaard – as – Chuck Traynor

Hank Azaria – as – Jerry Damino

For a complete list, check it out: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1426329/

Also, Lindsay Lohan was supposed to play Linda Lovelace in a different movie about her life called Inferno.

Unfortunately, she had to get her legal things in order… and then she did Playboy. Anyway, I am happy about this: Malin Akerman (Watchmen) will be replacing her! I am not sure why there needs to be two Linda Lovelace movies out there, but there will be, come 2013!

The Walking Dead Update: A Need for More Zombies and the Battle for Governor

This is not the first time I have heard little grumbles about season 2 of the AMC series, The Walking Dead. Reading an article on Warming Glow made me realize how very often I have seen online TWD threads complaining about the lack of zombies, and how slow season 2 has been. Of course I absolutely agree, especially after reading about the season 2 opener that we will never see. A show revolving around the zombie apocalypse… we should not have to tell you that there should be more action! The way the season began, with Sophia being lost, was a setup for a long and drawn out, dramatic plot point. By episode 4, no one cared about Sophia anymore.

Hershel added a much-needed opposing point to the story. It was a very realistic element to TWD… seeing someone who morally could not bring himself to kill the walkers. However, how many zombies did we actually see action with this season? Not enough.

The incident with Shane and Otis was probably the most exciting zombie-related scene in all of season 2 so far. Bottom line: Don’t get boring on us! We need action! Grumble grumble grumble.

Next order of business: The Walking Dead needs a Governor!

Jack White’s New SOLO Album: Blunderbuss – Preview a Sample!

The very talented Jack White is releasing a solo album! I am not sure if I have ever been so excited about anything in my entire life! As sad as that sounds, let me explain. I have always been a big fan of White’s talent. He is an amazing musician in many areas. His voice is remarkably unique and bluesy. His guitar riffs are always chaotic and unpredictable, yet his acoustic sets can be beautifully melodic and soft. Whether it was with The Raconteurs, the Dead Weather, or (my favorite) the White Stripes, he has made an unmistakable impression on the music world.

With this new CD, it seems we will be able to let Jack White out of his cage. No restrictions, no rules.

The CD titled Blunderbuss will be released on April 24th of this year. The album will be released on White’s record label, Third Man Records.

Here is the first sample of his new album: A song called Love Interruption. Prepare yourself for the eargasm.

Jack is also doing a lot of producing for his label. Even actor John C. Reilly (Step Brothers, Chicago, Boogie Nights) has a few White-produced singles! – “I’ll Be There If You Ever Want” and “Gonna Lay Down My Old Guitar.” to name a couple.

I will be back shortly after April 24th for an extensive review which I am sure will be full of praise.
