“We’re doomed again — all the toilets are ruined, so Grotessa is peeing in the sink!” — Jack Krack, SuperF*ckers

On the latest episode of InkStuds, Simon Hanselmann (whom GB interviewed in brief a couple months ago) shared with host Robin McConnell that Frederator has invited him to pitch a show (which, curiously, he categorized as a kid’s show. Joke? True? Whatevs). That’s exciting, because (a) we’re big fans of Hanselmann, (b) big fans of Frederator’s shows, including Pendleton Ward’s Adventure Time and Bravest Warriors, and (c) especially tickled at the results of Frederator’s latest show, SuperF*ckers, based on James Kochalka’s comic book of the same name.

End of an Era; Vertigo Veteran Karen Berger Announced Departure

Karen Berger is leaving DC Comics’ Vertigo imprint, it was announced yesterday. Berger, who created and headed the Vertigo division from the beginning, is staying on until March 2013. We can leave it to the industry insiders to question what this means for the future of Vertigo and DC, and we will add our voices to wishing Berger the best in all future ventures once April 2013 rolls around. While we can’t pretend to know exactly how much influence Berger had on each individual work that published under the Vertigo imprint, it’s probably an understatement to say not only has she been one of the most influential people in comics over the past 25 years, but the sensibilities of the Vertigo line during its burgeoning in the 1990s has cast a long shadow of influence that can be seen across all media — not just comics — today.

From the Ashes of Industrial Ovens, Will Hostess Rise Like (Marvel’s) Phoenix?

Fruit Pie the Magician’s best trick may yet be coming back from the dead. Or, more specifically, the death of Hostess, the company famous for making Wonder Bread, Fruit Pies, Ho-Hos, Ding-Dongs, and Twinkies, among others. Hostess today filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection — that’s the kind of bankruptcy where you wind the company down, sell off the assets, call it quits, cease to exist. The company will be unwinding over the next few months; already it has dismissed a veritable legion of workers, just in time for the holidays. Sucks for them far worse than those with a nostalgic sweet tooth. Let’s keep that in mind as we discuss.

Eric Powell Takes to Internet, Talks ‘Goon’ Movie Kickstarter, Knifes You in the Eye

Eric Powell, creator of comic book property The Goon, took to the Internet to answer questions via Reddit’s AMA (ask me anything) subreddit. While his intro and answers were mostly in relation to the in-progress Goon Movie Kickstarter, he was candid and forthcoming about plenty of his other work as well.

Season of the Witch — Check Out Megg & Mogg (and Anything Else Simon Hanselmann Does)

Halloween season is a great excuse to check out a witch-centric comic, Megg, Mogg & Owl. Not that Megg’s witchiness has much to do with the events of the comics, which creator Simon Hanselmann describes as “usually straight auto-bio” (and adds “I am usually dressed as a witch when I am around the house”).
