’12 Monkeys’ Looks To Jump To Small Screen For SyFy

SyFy just got a little bit more…Science Fictiony. Anyways, remember that great, underrated Terry Gilliam movie 12 Monkeys? If not, go watch it, it’s pretty darn fantastic. If so, guess what? They want to make it a series and according to the Hollywood Reporter, SyFy has officially ordered a pilot for the movie turned television show to see if they can make it happen on the cable channel.

SyFy was actually initially thinking of throwing all the eggs into one basket and ordering the whole season but decided to see how the pilot works out first. The project initially was being developed about a month ago and apparently the pilot treatment came out so well that production will be ramping up to start filming by November. Behind it are producers Charles Roven and Richard Suckle, who helped produce the original film, as they made the pitch to the cable network and will be the executive producers behind the pilot. Nikita and Terra Nova writers Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett are writing the hour long pilot script as well.

SyFy has been jumping all over the original scripted series train after the success of the risky Defiance series. They also have pilot orders for High Noon from Pushing Daisies’ Bryan Fuller, Rewind and a series order for Helix, which will all launch in 2014. No word on the involvement from original collaborators and actors Terry Gilliam, Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt but considering it’s television, it’s very unlikely they they will be involved in a creative or acting capacity. No word either on what the plot would be but it’s an interesting concept and echoing one Brian Kronner in saying that the best television series are cable shows, the potential is definitely there for something riveting and thought provoking. Yes, even from the network that brought you Sharknado. Which was awesome so yes, the bar is high for 12 Monkeys.

Call of Duty: Ghosts Unveils Multiplayer and Adds a Dash of Eminem

Just when you think that Call of Duty couldn’t get any bigger, you’re reminded that it happens to be one of the most recognizable brands in gaming. So much so that the marketing is out in full force four months before the game is actually released. You know the game is big time when we get an hour-long live stream revealing the multiplayer elements of the game. Not only that, but one of the biggest rappers in the world, Eminem, has graced your game with a never before released song for its trailer. With Call of Duty: Ghosts due out in November, we are starting to get some more details about some new aspects of the game and from the looks of things, smiles are about to materialize on many a gamer’s face.

As you can see from the trailer above for the multiplayer elements, there’s a lot of brand new stuff to dissect. First off, Eminem is providing the music with his new song “Survivor” to pump you up and take down your enemy. It reminds me of his song “Won’t Back Down” with Pink and I’m sure it will be played non-stop once people find the means to download it. One of the big things is seeing the dynamic maps, where you can destroy parts of the map or take out structures to distract someone, or even take out a whole squad. This will add a fun element to the destruction of environments and another thing to account for as you run around on all the maps. Another big part is seeing the fluid movements of your soldier as he (or she, we’ll get to that in a minute) can slide or hop over obstacles while still being able to aim and shoot. Being able to slide and jump back up to avoid a shot and take someone out then hop over a barrier to stab the next enemy in your sights will deliver a lot of multi-kills and satisfying killstreaks.

There is also a ton more customization when it comes to this new game, probably the most prominently marketed will be the inclusion of female soldiers. Yes, despite the last series that developer Infinity Ward did being subtitled Modern Warfare, Ghosts will mark the first time that female soldiers will be stepping into the Call of Duty multiplayer arena. You’ll also be able to modify more characteristics such as race and body type, plus the standbys like gear, clothing and of course, weapons, in order to make your multiplayer avatar your own. As many as 30 new weapons will enter this iteration of the game so expect to see a lot of new guns lying around waiting to be tried. A new class will accompanying this game called the Marksman Rifle, which is an intended hybrid of the Sniper and Assault Rifle class. This will allow those gamers with the option of using the scope or getting in closer for a semi-auto or one shot kill. There’s also another new, and potentially awesome, game mode is called Cranked. This mode borrows from the Statham movie and gives you 30 seconds to find and kill someone before you die. It’s effectively a game of tag where the clock resets when you take out an enemy. You’ll also get your typical multiplayer modes that have been featured in all the previous games but this one will be something to get excited about.

There’s a lot of stuff to get excited for an that’s just a small bit of what to expect from the new game when it comes to challenging and fighting friends online. The trailer above is from the one hour live stream that they did on Wednesday so check it out, there’s a lot of other great info about the game. Again, Call of Duty: Ghosts comes out on November 5th, 2013 on Xbox One, Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Playstation 4 and the Wii U. Also below is a fun trailer for the new collector’s edition. If anything, it’ll make you yell, “BREACH!” every time you walk through a doorway.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Gives A Little Promo Love

You probably all know how much I loved the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot right? Well, we’re about a month and a half away from the premiere and Marvel and ABC have graciously decided to feed us more teases from the Joss Whedon led series. The first promo involves the always lovable Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) as he introduces us to his team.

Just a very minor introduction, basically just so you can further question how Agent Coulson still lives and breathes and is able to lead a team into the dangerous world the Marvel Universe is now. We are also treated to another promo dealing with Skye, a hacker who catches the attention of the aforementioned Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and we get a small spotlight into her, as well as a few scenes from the pilot.

I will say she has a great interrogation scene in the pilot. I just remember the room breaking out and cheering during that part. Anyways, below are some more promos to tell get you pumped for the first episode on September 24th. Enjoy my friends.

Arrested Development ‘Definitely’ Returning, But In What Form?

As if you needed a James Bond type announcement, but it’s pretty much confirmed that the Bluths will indeed return for a 5th season. Slashfilm and WarmingGlow reported that last week, creator Mitchell Hurwitz confirmed that the Bluths will be back, delivering a definitive “definitely” in Montreal at the Just for Laughs comedy festival. In fact, Hurwitz even went as far as asking the Netflix chief content officer, Ted Sarandos, who was conveniently sitting with him if they could discuss it at the moment because he’s got “kids to feed.”

Cosmos Is Returning, Neil deGrasse Tyson Says Brace Yourself for Awesome

I had the wonderful pleasure of being able to attend the Cosmos panel at Comic-Con with Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson, Ann Druyan and producer Brannon Braga. First off, it probably was one of the coolest panels I have ever attended and it was the second time I have heard Dr. Tyson (or Neil at the panel if you were lucky enough to ask him a question) speak. The first time being the Starship Smackdown panel last year where he expounded on why the original Starship Enterprise deserved to win the smackdown (which, not shockingly, did win). The second time I heard him speak in person was this panel and it proved that seeing him in person is an experience in itself. Very eloquent and never condescending, he spoke with passion yet never overpowering the audience. You can definitely see why he was chosen to be the next host of Cosmos.

Even better was the involvement of Ann Druyan, the widow of Carl Sagan, and what she had to say on the subject of bringing back this show of science and discovery so that a new generation can enjoy Cosmos. I had never seen her speak before but you can definitely tell she is more than capable of carrying the torch that Sagan lit with this program. For those that don’t know, Cosmos was a mini-series from 1980 that had 13 episodes. It was presented by Carl Sagan and talked about a wide range of scientific subjects, whether the origins of life, life out in the universe or even investigating our own mysteries here on Earth. It was well received and people have been clamoring for a return. Luckily, Seth MacFarlane carries an enormous amount of clout these days and is executive producing Cosmos: A Space Time Odyssey because he was such a big fan. So in 2014, we will be treated to the next iteration of the series on both FOX and the National Geographic Channel. It’s hard for me to really explain more about the series so below is the trailer to the new mini-series.

Yeah, I know right? I managed to watch Cosmos when I was a lot younger and it really did turn me on to science as a young kid and the whole idea of exploration and curiosity. By bringing this to a whole new generation, the goal is to at least expand the minds of new generations and provide a starting point for those to inquire more about science. I hope this project becomes a great success and a starting point for those younger kids to begin looking into the world. Again, Cosmos: A Space Time Odyssey will air on FOX and National Geographic sometime in Spring 2014. Below is a small bit from the Cosmos panel, showing why Neil deGrasse Tyson has the ability to speak to the new generation and get some blood flowing to the brain.
