Here’s Chucky! Child’s Play Star Invades the Horror Genre!

Curse of Chucky slashed its way onto DVD shelves last week, and as part of a very clever advertising campaign we now have the chance to see how Chucky would react if he got caught up in other horror movies. Below are the four videos so far that Chucky has invaded, and they are fantastic little shorts. Modern horror like The Purge comes under fire from the tiny ginger killer, but horror classics like Psycho aren’t safe either. Chucky has been inserted perfectly into these videos and in some cases enhances the clips from the original movies.

The stand out short has to be the Psycho scene which has a brilliant sight gag in it with had this reviewer chuckling. But do not take my word for it see for yourself.

DVD Catastrophe – Halloween Special

It is that time again when we celebrate all things creepy and crawly. It’s also a great time to get some really cheesy horror movies in your DVD players. Personally I like nothing better than closing the curtains, turning out the lights and getting a great scary movie on the telly. In fact my love for these movies is so strong that the urge to do a visual list of them was too hard to ignore. So without further ado here is a collection of 13 good, bad and just plain ugly Halloween-themed DVDs that you could be watching on that special spooky night.

As the night draws on, Chris attempts to search the house for any clues that will testify his innocence, but in an effort to conceal himself from the party-goers and the authorities who are searching for him, begins his own killing spree that leads to a massacre far worse than the original.

Avalanche Sharks: Does Sharknado Have Competition?

Just when you thought it was safe to come out from under the covers the sharks rise up yet again. After the huge success Sharknado was for the SyFy channel they have done it again with their next shark feature, Avalanche Sharks. As you can see they have not strayed far from the source material, exchanging tornadoes for avalanches. Below is the Avalanche Shark official synopsis.

Spring break in the mountains: snowboarding, beer, drunken co-eds in bikinis. As the yearly Bikini Ski Day party descends on a small mountain town, something lurks beneath the snow. When an unwitting rider causes an avalanche, it awakens a huge, menacing, prehistoric Snow Shark! With a newfound taste for human flesh, the Snow Shark picks off the snow bunnies mercilessly. Cut off from help by mountainous terrain and blinding snow, the local sheriff must make an unlikely alliance with a motley crew of snowboarders to take down the Snow Shark before the white hills run red with blood!

Now if you have all finished laughing at the notion of a “motley crew of snowboarders” then you may need to sit yourself down for the trailer.

http://youtu.be/6CXRBjc8O0w

Glad to see all the things this reviewer expects from a shark movie are in there. Stupid teens, bikinis, a shark that pops up in truly strange places (yeah I am talking about the hot tub scene) and people with guns shooting aimlessly at stuff. They even find time to add the crazy man who used to pop up in all the 80s Slasher movies (especially Friday the 13th 1 and 2). What made Sharknado so much fun was the nudge and a wink approach and a generally funny concept of having sharks leap out of a tornado. However, with this film it fits directly into pretty much every other shark related movie’s pattern (Sand Shark, Shark in Venice, etc), it has a shark popping up and eating people. There is also is the small problem that a shark in snow is already a concept that has appeared in film in the 2011 movie Snow Shark.

Avalanche Shark

Not that any of this is a bad thing (horror is well known for returning to the same themes and shark fans know what these films are like), it’s just going to get cluttered up with the rest of the shark movies which pretty much all cover this kind of thing. It looks fun, but I am surprised that some kind of Sharknado team up (giant octopus would have been welcome) was not introduced, seems like a waste especially after the huge success it found. It looks good enough, but from viewing the trailer it is not going to be up there with Shark Attack 3 and Sharknado. Maybe the shoes are just too big to fill. Still it is early days and I really, really hope I am wrong, as this reviewer loves this kind of cheesy nonsense. Not sure on a release date yet, but we will have our fingers crossed that Avalanche Sharks will rock the shark fans’ world.

Wonder Woman Lets Loose In This New Fan Film

You have to feel sorry for Wonder Woman. Aside from a great TV run in the ’70s, she really has struggled to make it back onto the screen. Films pitches have resulted in zero success, and TV pilots have come and gone without so much as a whimper.

So, we turn to the fans to make Wonder Woman come to life, and thus far we’ve been pleasantly surprised at how much better they are than the big budget attempts. This must be because of the heart and soul that goes into these projects. In August we talked about First Impressions, which had to be the most emasculating first date ever.

Now we’ve got another interpretation of the character, starring Team Unicorn’s Rileah Vanderbilt as the Princess herself. With an obvious passion for the product,  just read what director Sam Balcomb has to say about this new release.

[quote] Firstly, thanks for watching. Whether you like, or dislike, our live action interpretation of Diana of Themyscira, Wonder Woman, born of clay, I think (quite a few of) you will agree she is a character just as vital and crucial to our understanding of humanity as any other superhero… if not more so.

We spent the majority of 2013 working on this — the look, the feel, the aspects we most wanted to portray. It’s a scant two and half minutes, but in the end, it’s one hundred and fifty seconds of pure fantasy, where I get to consider the two sides of my favorite warrior: a crusader in man’s world, and a paragon of virtue told through Greek mythology.

It’s a fun world to hang out in. I hope you enjoy it. [/quote]

Here is the finished product and it looks incredible

Wonder Woman certainly looks the part; in fact I don’t think she has ever looked better. They managed to make a suit that conforms to the comic book ideals of the character, looks practical and also showcases her sexuality all in one go. The narrative is fantastical, constructed jumping from Paradise Island with her fellow Amazons, then straight to the down and dirty streets where some thugs get their just deserts. It shows how Wonder Woman (like Superman) is a child of two lands. It is also great to watch her kick some serious backside.

The effects are great, and the CGI Minotaur monsters look particularly stunning. In fact the only downside to this is that it’s so short it leaves you craving more of this Wonder Woman. Hopefully the group responsible for this short will give us more exploits of the Amazonian Princess very soon.

Clown Terrifies British Town…In A Good Way

It is like something out of a horror movie, but in the town of Northampton, it’s a reality.

Yes, a hauntingly ghostly clown has been seen around the area, putting the jitters on everyone he comes in contact with. He seems harmless enough, but the sheer fact that a clown is randomly hanging around the area has certainly caused a stir with the locals.  Facebook has gone crazy for him and below are a few of the photos that have emerged of this mysterious entertainer.

 Clown Clown

It seems however that the clown means us no harm. In an exclusive interview with The Northampton Chronicle he spoke a little about why he has taken to the streets in clown makeup.

[box_light]“I just want to amuse people” said the clown who wants to remain anonymous. He went on to say that “Most people enjoy being a bit freaked out and then they can laugh about it afterwards. It’s like watching a horror movie, when people get scared they usually start laughing.” That was certainly what the public have thought about the clown so far with even the Chief Constable Adrian Lee saying “If I met the clown, I would shake his hands to thank him for what he’s doing. I think it’s something to be enjoyed by us all.”[/box_light]

Anyone looking at the clown could certainly see a Stephen King influence, but this clown is not interested in making things float as his final comment reveals:

[box_light] “Naturally, some people would have been extremely frightened by what they saw, but I hope many are starting to see it as a bit of harmless fun,”[/box_light]

He has even inspired others to take to the streets, one person naming himself Boris The Clown Catcher has said via Facebook that “I am the official clown catcher. I am not here to scare anyone. I am not here to hurt anyone. I come in peace!”

 Clown

Most people seeing it as a bit of a giggle, it seems Northampton is quite the fun place to be at the moment. Maybe not the place to go if you have heart trouble though. It is just a bit of fun, but that clown can still give you a Hell of a scare. Better hope Boris and his friends are there to protect you!

The Daily Mirror has revealed that the clown is using his new-found stardom to sell his own merchandise. He has plans to become the number one clown in the UK and fair play to him is what this reviewer has to say. The money he raises will be partly used to help him tour the country improving his profile and the rest will go to charity. To help you keep up to speed on his antics, check out his Facebook page for more details.

VideoHeroeS Game Lets You Relive the Days of a Video Store Clerk

For some, the idea of a shop where you physically had to get a title you wished to watch rather than download or stream seems like a concept conceived in the Stone Age. But for a whole generation, this was the go to place for hot (and not so hot) releases. The video store was a place where families could venture out together and get any type of film they wanted. It was a great bonding experience (this reviewer has great memories of those days) but also a thrill to know what new titles were coming out. In the 1980s, when the video store truly came into its own, there was little information about movies available to the public other than fanzines so it was always a gamble when taking out a movie. Also, there was some effort involved, with the staff needing to know about what movies they had in at the time. Hell, Quentin Tarantino used his time in video stores to further his knowledge and love of movies, eventually turning him into a big time director of terrific, generation-defining movies.
