Ghostbusters 3: We Ain’t Afraid of No Sequel (anymore)

It was seeming like it would take events of biblical proportion to get Bill Murray to come over to the dark side, aka: Dan Aykroyd’s driving force to produce Ghostbusters 3. Rumors have been swirling for years, but it seems like Murray has finally, definitively said no or at least Aykroyd has finally conceded as much. Other than the fact that the screenplay is reportedly awful, Moviefone’s Mike Ryan does a pretty good job of examining the reasons Murray has let this one pass on bye, including an interesting nugget you might not have known about Murray’s original involvement with Ghostbusters.

“Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together, mass hysteria!”

“He’d star in a movie called Ghostbusters in exchange for The Razors Edge being released. Ghostbusters went on to gross $238 million; The Razors Edge (filmed before Ghostbusters, but released four months later) tanked, grossing only $6.5 million. Murray was so crushed by the failure of The Razor’s Edge that he moved to Paris and didn’t star in another film — save for a cameo in Little Shop of Horrors — for another four years. Today, Murray doesn’t have to make trades to get a movie produced.”

‘The Simpsons’ Hit #500 and Other Such Springfield Related Nonsense…

Episode 500 Review: This episode has an epic couch gag mashing up every bit they have ever done.   A fake nuclear war has been cooked up to keep the Simpsons away while the town votes on whether to ban them from Springfield.  In a good amount of self referential fun, the family is displaced to the “Outlands” and gets to meet ultra-cool guest star, Julian Assange.

The Sinister Six Returns in ‘Spider-Man: Ends of the Earth!’

Happy 50th Birthday Spidey! Just in case everyone missed the memo, it’s our resident wall-crawler’s 50th anniversary this year! And what better way to celebrate than getting his ass kicked back and forth between a newly formed Sinister Six? That’s exactly what ole’ webhead has to look forward to in the upcoming ‘Ends of the Earth’ story arc hitting shelves this month in March and carrying over into the summer.

And who is the main villain spearheading this new assault not only on Spiderman, but the world itself? Well who else but Doc Ock himself, who hasn’t been too credible of a threat in the years past to his arch nemesis but has been making power plays throughout the Marvel U, as writer Dan Slott points out in an interview with Comic Book Resources:

As for Dr. Octopus himself, the villain has shown up in a number of other titles, which Slott said has been building to the story he has planned. “We’ve seen Doc Ock and the Sinister Six slowly building and percolating this master plan,” he said. “On the way it’s stretched out into the Marvel Universe proper. We’ve seen Doc Ock totally smack down Iron Man. He totally wiped the floor with Hank Pym’s team in ‘Avengers Academy.’ Over in ‘Spider-Man’ during an FF team up, Doc Ock pwned Reed Richards! He took over the Baxter Building and stole all kinds of stuff. Doc Ock’s been taking out the biggest brains on his stomp to global domination.”

The Iron Man issues featuring Doctor Octopus were excellent, and not to mention beautifully drawn by Salvador Larocca. It showed us a glimpse of Otto in the past and his dealings with Stark’s family business and not to mention he pretty much beat Iron Man in his own way. To me, this arc is huge in terms of the Sinister Six. The Sinister Six, although cool in theory was only a big thing because it was a villain team up and their main goal was to destroy Spidey. This time though they are going to be helping Doctor Octopus in his bid for world domination and from the looks of some of the teasers it appears that they will be going to some extremely grim measures.

Slott also mentioned that even though the Sinister Six would be starting off with certain members that they would be different by the end of the arc. Does that mean deaths or good old fashioned ass whoopings from Spiderman? We’ll have to wait and find out. Check out the starting lineup and awesome cover art for the Sinister Six in Ends of the Earth:

The Daily…err…The Daly Show

Today Gamma Squad posted an episode of ‘The Daly Show‘ which guest starred Michael Rosenbaum and Malcom Reynolds Nathan Fillion. So I watched it and loved it and wondered how it was that I had not heard about this show sooner. So I went back and watched the first 6 episodes and I gotta say, they’re hilarious.

Tim Daly and his son Sam play themselves and in a series of 5 minute episodes deal with real issues, like looking like a douche and wether or not Taye Diggs tastes like chocolate.

Here are the links to the episodes if you want to get caught up, or if you just want to watch the one with Fillion, I’ve included it below…

– The Daly Show: Episode 1 “The Daly Douche”
– The Daly Show: Episode 2 “The Daly Double”
– The Daly Show: Episode 3 “The Daly Chocolate” with Taye Diggs
– The Daly Show: Episode 4 “The Daly Family Tree” with Amy Brenneman
– The Daly Show: Episode 5 “The Daly Christmas”
– The Daly Show: Episode 6 “The Super Bowl”

and finally…

– The Daly Show: Episode 7: “The Daly Superheroes” with NATHAN FILLION

I loved when Fillion pulled out the hammer, an obvious nod to his role as ‘The Hammer’ in Dr. Horrible’s Sing-A-Long Blog. It’s nice to see guys having fun with stuff like this and not taking themselves too seriously. This was probably my favorite episode, but ‘The Daly Double’ isn’t far behind. What’d you think?

Grizzly Review: Wanderlust

In 2001, the cult comedy to top all cult comedies, Wet Hot American Summer, was released to rather negative reviews (obviously). Garnering an A from Entertainment Weekly, but low markings from pretty much everywhere else, the film was discarded into oblivion after its release, only to resurface as a God of the cult world a few years later. Director and co-writer David Wain had since then made a couple of movies including The Ten and the critical and commercial success, Role Models, which definitely took a turn for the subdued in the “Wain humor” category.

Prometheus: New Video Gives Us Our ‘ALIEN’ Link

Ridley Scott is getting ready to release one of the most anticipated movies of the year, and the main reason for the anticipation is the films ‘Prequel’ status relative to one of the greatest Sci-Fi movies ever made – Alien.

Well now Scott is saying that the connections to the beloved franchise with the acid-blooded antagonists is going to be more obscure than originally planned, and I don’t believe him. That’s not to say I’m expecting Michael Fassbender‘s chest to explode 20 minutes into the movie, but I do think we’re gonna see more than he claims.

What he is claiming is that Guy Pierce‘s character – ‘Peter Weyland’  – is gonna be our only real tie to the historic series of movies. Fans of the movies will remember that ‘Ellen Ripley’ and ‘Captain Dallas’ worked for ‘Weyland-Yutani‘. Peter Weyland is presumably the son or grandson of Lance Henriksen‘s AVP character ‘Charles Bishop Weyland’. Weyland’s company eventually merged with The Yutani Comapny, who were featured in possession of a ‘Predator Arm Cannon’ at the end of AVP: Requiem.

Anyhow, here’s the video…

Now this, combined with the ship on LV-426 that we remember from the first 2 movies, which has already been featured in the Prometheus trailer, lead me to believe that this story is gonna be more ingrained that he wants to let on.

Guess we wont know for sure though until June 8th…
