‘Spartacus: War of the Damned’ Will be Final Season

I’m not sure it should come as a surprise to anyone that Spartacus couldn’t last forever. I mean how many Romans can really come at Spartacus and get killed in such creative fashion? And here’s a huge spoiler from the history books, Spartacus and the other slaves do eventually end up losing. Sure, the show isn’t all that historically accurate so I wouldn’t put it past them to do something uniquely different with the ending, but honestly there’s not a whole lot more to squeeze from the lauded Starz original series. Oh yes, all of that accompanies the fact that we had about half the cast bite the dust in just the second season.

After season 2 a couple things are now official. The third season of Spartacus will be known as “War of the Damned”, and this third season will be it’s final season. It seems crazy to think that Starz would cancel it’s most widely watched show at the peak of it’s glory, but one has to respect them for not just milking the ever loving shit out of their project until it dies a meek death with less than half the original viewers it started with, as most TV shows love to do. Check out the article here at THR for an extensive interview with showrunner Steven S. DeKnight to get a grip on his reasoning for the ending of the show.

It’s going to be interesting to see what the last ten episodes of Spartacus will hold for the characters we know and love including Spartacus, Crixus and Gannicus. It’s evident that anyone at this point will be up for an epic death scene, more than likely not in the arena. It was almost inevitable that Spartacus would be facing off against Crassus at some point, having heard his name over the past two seasons more than once.

Also of note is the inclusion of the man himself, Julius Caesar into the world of Spartacus. DeKnight even spoke of a possible spin-off involving Caesar. I’m not quite sure how that would work out, or if it would even be entertaining, but I’m sure if it’s the same team running the show it couldn’t be that bad. Usually I’m shocked and upset about a show ending, especially when it’s at it’s absolute best. However, something just feels right about them ending Spartacus. The show has been consistently good even with many tribulations it has faced with the untimely death of it’s main actor Andy Whitfield. Hopefully they will end it on a high note in honor of him. Time will tell.

‘Elysium’ from the director of ‘District 9’: Plot & Images

Elysium in case you haven’t heard of it yet, is an upcoming science fiction film written and directed by Neill Blomkamp (District 9). The film will star the following massive actors; Matt Damon, Jodie Foster, Wagner Moura and Alice Braga. The film is currently scheduled to be released on March 1st or 8th, 2013.

Elysium is set on another planet in the far future. The film will combine socio-political ideas and action! We haven’t had something like this since Minority Report, so we hope it does very well.

If you think it’s a bit weird that you haven’t heard a thing about this big production Sci-Fi with lots of popular stars, you’re not alone as the director (Neill Blomkamp) has been keeping everything about this film very close to lip. Hopefully this film will release more information soon, so keep an eye out.

Plot

In the year 2159, two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, built by the Armadyne Corporation, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes, a hard government official, will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn’t stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky ex-con Max is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.

This film looks to be going down the same path as District 9 with Social upheaval, but this isn’t really shocking considering a lot of films (The Hunger Games, Dark Knight Rises) and TV shows (Continuum, Legend of Korra) recently have pointed to this genre, it is very relatable in our world (rich get richer, poor getting poorer).

Images

If that’s not enough to tide you over then we have some great still that raise some questions, such as what’s that tech on these guys?, Why is Matt Damon bald?, and finally why can I not get more pictures? Well that’s because it’s a super-secret production without any leaks or spoilers.

Is that a Katana on his back, I think it is!

So finally what are your thoughts? Did you like District 9? Do you think Neil Blomkamp can repeat his earlier success? Or, do you think it will just suck? All views are welcome.

“Bored to Death: The Movie” Coming Soon…Hopefully

For those of you who took part in the joyful HBO program “Bored to Death”, I give you the highest of virtual high fives. “Bored to Death” was a very underrated and entertaining show that was taken off the air before it reached its true potential. The combination of Ted Danson, Jason Schwartzman, and Zach Galifianakis was hilarious and every episode gave us a new and interesting mystery to follow as Jonathan Ames (Jason Schwartzman’s character) cracked the case.

According to Ted Danson, “Bored to Death” might become Bored to Death (note the stylish transition from quotations to italicizing, signifying the change from television to film). That’s right, folks. The movie nobody cared about/wanted to see is now in negotiations to be a real thing. For us BTD fans, this is a gift from the heavens of Jonathan Ames’ mind, but for everyone else, well, they’re probably not even reading this article right now.

WarmingGlow reports:

[Bored to Death], which aired its final episode in November, might have one more outing as a movie. Yesterday at the Monte Carlo Television Festival, Ted Danson told French journalist Pierre Langlas that there was a good chance of a 90-minute movie happening. A rep from HBO tells Vulture that there have “been some conversations” about a BTD movie, but “it’s at a very early stage.”

If this is the real deal, I’m definitely excited. But can we please keep the movie to an incest-minimum during its 90 minutes, please. That would be great. Thanks. After seeing That’s My Boy, I think I’ve reached my incest-quotient for the year.

Review: ‘True Blood’ Season 5 Episode 2 – “Authority Always Wins”

Image (1) megan-true-blood.jpg for post 7681

Could it be true?  Are we about to watch a season of True Blood that doesn’t make me want to experience the true death?  So far so good.

Tonight’s episode was a real doozy!  Eric, Bill, and Nora have been captured and imprisoned by the Authority and are experiencing a hearty round of questioning and torture.  Even though Nan was a cold old bitch who was on her way to the unemployment lines, Bill and Eric are asked about their involvement in her death.  We also learn about the Vampire Bible who tells the story of Lilith, a vampire created in God’s image before Adam and Eve were made to be her food.  Both Bill and Eric are asked on repeat if they buy into this school of thought, do they see humans as people or merely food?
