#21 – Countdown to Halloween: NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD

Shot by a group of college friends who made commercials, Night of the Living Dead has endured for over 40 years as the gold standard of zombie films. Released in 1968, on a shoe-string budget, and with little to no experience for most of the cast and crew, this film continues to influence pop culture still today.

#22 – Countdown to Halloween: HALLOWEEN (2007)

The Countdown blazes on! We’ve seen some great movies and some bad movies in preparation for the upcoming celebration of All Hallow’s Eve. Some Horror films can be tied to other holidays of course. Christmas, Thanksgiving and Valentine’s Day all have their share of movies. But when it comes to Halloween, one movie stands out above the rest.

A movie that helped guide all horror to come. It spawned a number of sequels, a reboot and a remake, which itself spawned a sequel.  You’d think that would narrow it down a little, right? #23 – Countdown to Halloween: FRIGHT NIGHT (1985)

#24 – Countdown to Halloween: TROLL 2

Do you know what connects the films Troll and Troll 2? (Other than the fact that I bought them packaged onto one DVD). The word ‘troll’ in the title. That’s it. They share no characters, no cast, no locations, not even a single plot element. In fact there isn’t even a troll in Troll 2. There are however, lots of goblins.

#25 – Countdown to Halloween: SILENCE OF THE LAMBS

The Silence of the Lambs is one of the greatest and most influential horror films of all time. Based on the 1988 novel by Thomas Harris, the movie was released in 1991.Not only did it shock and disturb audiences everywhere, but it set a new standard for horror movies. This was not just another gore-filled hack-and-slash. This is a complete mind-blowing thriller, and one of my favorite movies of all time.
