Ray Stevenson Cast in Dexter’s 7th Season

The show that lets us all stroke our dark side has a new cast member. Showtime’s serial killer drama Dexter is welcoming Ray Stevenson (Thor, G.I. Joe: Retaliation) to the show. According to LeftHandHorror Stevenson will play Issac, a Russian criminal who travels to Miami to figure out who killed one of the members of his organization. I don’t know if it is going to be another one of those situations like with Mos Def as Brother Sam. I got attached to his character, I was interested in the perspective he could give Dexter… at one point, I even thought that I would see Brother Sam kill with Dexter… but then he died. In fact, just about every interesting character on Dexter dies, other than obviously Dexter and his sister Deb.

In case you have forgotten, season 6 was not the series’ best work. There were some key things that made season 6 extremely disappointing for me as a fan. Example: Dexter is an extremely intelligent person. He has always been very meticulous and routine with his relationships as well as his kills. In season 6, Dexter got very sloppy. He made the phone call to 9-1-1 with his own cell phone on the boat, he was seen by the public many times in areas he wasn’t supposed to be in, he had sex with someone in a different state when he was telling everyone he was still in Miami, he killed innocent people… and mostly… he was caught by his sister!

Of course, the season ended before we could find out what happens, although there has been a lot of skepticism about whether there may have been a sheet or something dividing the rooms Dexter and Deb were in. The further Dexter gets away from his strict moral code, the more he screws up. Also, at the end of season 6, we learned that Deb is in love with her adopted brother Dexter.

Poor Deb has had a very terrible history with men. Could this be because she has bad luck? Or is it because she is just as screwed up in the head as her serial killer brother? One thing is for sure, I will be watching the season 7 premiere. After the disappointments of last season (and season 5 for that matter), season 7 needs a fresh face. Also, with the addition of a new high-profile actor, I wonder if that is their way of going out with a bang? Will Dexter finally be beaten at his own game? There are definitely at least two more seasons of Dexter left. Seasons 7 & 8 will consist of 12 episodes each.

Dexter season 7 will premiere on Sunday, September 30th. I will be back on that day to either rave or rant.
